Ultrasound Technique Can Easily Kill Cancer Cells

Ultrasound scan is in use for a long time now. However, there is a fantastic benefit of this ultrasound test that was hidden from the researchers for a long time until recently. Recently it has proved that the low-intensity pulses of the ultrasound have shown selectively to kill the cancer cells. However, it will leave the normal cells unharmed.

Ultrasound waves, the sound waves with frequency is higher than what humans can hear. It was used as a cancer treatment before as well in a broad-brush approach. The high-intensity bursts of the ultrasound can easily heat up the tissues; it will kill the cancer cells as well as the normal cells in the targeted area.

Now, as scientists are exploring the new horizons of the low-intensity pulsed ultrasound, there are new findings that suggest that it can destroy cancer cells in our body.

How can ultrasound techniques help you in treating cancer?

A study to describe the effectiveness of the new approach in the cell models published in the ‘Applied Physics Letter’ on the 7th of January revealed that ultrasound techniques in treating cancer are just taking its baby steps. However, the results are positive. So, it might be safe to say that the baby is a fast learner as of now.

There are various researches conducted on this particular matter till now. If we are going to describe them all, it might become an epic here. We will tell you about some selective study results about how and from where researchers are seeing a ray of hope with ultrasound techniques treating cancer.

Research recently took place in California by the California Institute of Technology and Department of Immuno-Oncology at City of Hope, a cancer research h center situated in Duarte. The team hopes that ultrasound will attack the cancer cells and will also engage the immune system and will arouse it to attack any other cancer cells remaining after the treatment.

If ultrasound can successfully kill cancer cells in a way that the immune system of the body will recognize it as an injury rather than apoptosis, then that might be the site of tumor flooding with white blood cells that will attack the other remaining cancer cells as well.

Even though the tests happened on Petri dishes so far, however, the Caltech – City of Hope team will expand the testing to tumors and eventually in living animals as well.

So, ultrasound scans that were used in detecting diseases inside our body are now helping us with giving us a ray of hope against cancer with ultrasound waves. Cancer, the disease that still kills most of the people in our world, now, may have an answer from our end as well.
