A 3d mammogram is a special x-ray of the breast. It is a radiological procedure that can detect small cancers long before they can be felt by you or your doctor.

As the x-rays pass through the breast tissue, an actual picture of the tissue inside is obtained. This image is interpreted by a radiologist who evaluates it for changes in density, the presence of calcifications or changes in the arrangement of the tissue. If you are not having any breast problems, you will be scheduled for a screening 3d mammogram. If you are having problems, then you should be scheduled for a diagnostic 3d mammogram.

What is a Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam?
The Genius exam allows doctors to examine your breast tissue layer by layer. So, instead of viewing all of the complexities of your breast tissue in a flat image, as with conventional 2D mammography, fine details are more visible and no longer hidden by the tissue above or below. A good analogy for the Genius exam is like thinking of the pages in a book. If you look down at the cover you cannot see all of the pages–but when you open it up, you can go through the entire book page by page to see everything between the covers.

Who can have a Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam?
The Genius exam is more accurate for women of all ages, with both dense and non-dense breasts, and the Genius exam is the only mammogram FDA approved as superior for women with dense breasts. The exam is approved for all women who would be undergoing a standard mammogram, in both screening and diagnostic settings and elect to add the 3D component.

What to Expect During Your Exam
The process of a Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam is the same as your conventional 2D exam. There’s no additional compression required, and it only takes a few extra seconds for an exam, proven to be more accurate.

Can I have a Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam if I have breast implants?
Yes
